Since we didn’t want to bore you with a long list of motorcycle helmets filled with utter non-sense about specs you wouldn’t need to know, we’ve narrowed it down to the best motorcycle helmets you’ll likely need. There are hundreds—if not, thousands— types of motorcycle helmets out there. What you’re looking for will likely change what option is arguably the “best.” However, if you’re looking for the type of helmet that are the “best” in general, i.e., highest reviews, what most people buy, etc., then you’d want to start with what makes the cut by looking at the 5 best of the best helmets below. Included are price points and different styles of motorcycle helmets.

HJC CL-17

This one, the HJC CL-17, hits every nail in the head when it comes to any category you can think of.

The HJC CL-17 both has a Snell and DOT certification. It’s made up with advanced polycarbonate composite shell helmet which meets strict safety standard. That being said, safety should be your top concern when choosing a helmet so this one definitely has a strong selling point initially.

The face shield is equipped with a Pinlock shield which allows it to add UV protection and a massive-fog resistance feature. Disassembling the helmet should come as a breeze as well as putting it back together. This is especially helpful when you need to occasionally clean some of its parts. One great feature from its parts is that they are anti-bacterial and moisture wicking fabric so bad smell shouldn’t be an issue.

The all new CL-17 is a predecessor to the massive hit, CL-16. It’s a slightly refined and lighter helmet.  It’s aptly named ventilation system ACS, which stands for Advanced Channeling Ventilation System, is an expertly designed system which allows airflow from the front right to the back. Humidity and heat should not be an issue when riding if you’re using this helmet.

Another strong selling point for this product is that you can get a ton of value for its price, which usually around $125 excluding shipping fees. It’s features are also at par with the style of the product itself. Apart from great features and great style, (which, as an added bonus, allows you to choose from a variety of colors and graphics to designed it with) riders will also love its comforting fit!

Arai Vector-2

Even though it is ahead of most companies high-end products, the Vector 2 is considered as Arai’s most ‘basic’ helmet or as their entry-level helmet. The sole reason it is considered as ‘basic’ is simply because other Arai helmets are much more packed with other features and are much more advanced.

One notable feature in the Vector-2 is that you get an amazing helmet that not only keeps you safe upon meeting DOT and Snell safety standards, you’ll also get a great shield and excellent ventilation. It may be taken for granted, but Arai’s Research and Development labs has been spending quite a lot of time, energy, and resources, in making small but important improvements for the helmet.

The Vector-2 has 2 more peripheral visions thanks to the design upgrade from the original vector. This gives you 5 mm on each side, which gives a huge difference upon wearing it. There is also a noticeable line and cheek pad improvement- adjustable cheek pads. These improvements provide amazing ventilation, allowing rear and front vents to work together to keep the right temperature. What’s more is that the helmet takes the warm air of your breath so that it has an easy way to escape which results to cool air that you can breathe.

If you’re thinking of taking a step up towards purchasing a quality helmet, invest in a high brand like Arai and the Vector-2 to get the perfect idea of what it’s like to own a premium helmet.

IV2 901

The IV2 901 is probably the best ‘bargain’ helmet that is both DOT and Snell security approved that you can find.

While you don’t get all the fancy features—and often times unnecessary—of other high-end helmets, you’re certainly in for a bargain since this sturdy helmet comes in a low price. The last time we checked, you can get one for under $50. Its surely is much less expensive than other premium brands in the market, so if you’re willing to compromise all the fancy features to save some cash, then this one’s surely worth your while.

But don’t think that price compromise its quality! Apart from the safety feature, you can also get an interchangeable smoked and clear visor, which is very easy to change- you won’t even need any hardware to do it! There are also 3 vents on the front, one at the chin, and two above the shield.

Apart from the features mentioned above, there’s really nothing more to discuss about the IV2 902 since its strong selling point is the price here. Honestly, it’s not the best helmet when it comes to feature or quality scale, but considering that you can have a decent helmet that’s also cheap, this one is your safe bet. To back that up, Amazon buyers have rated it a good 4 out of 5 stars, nearly 50% of the buyers giving it a perfect rating.

Shoei RF-1200

This is the latest addition to the successful line of RF helmets from Shoei. Presently, the RF-1200 is the most impressive unit in its series.

The RF-1200 took the best from its predecessors, RF 1000 and 1100, then Shoei gave it a sort of a redesign to improve functionality. Both Snell and DOT approved, Shoei actually managed to cut the weight on this helmet to a 3.5 pound unit. A bit more compact than the models before it, since the company (arguably) had cut out all the unnecessary features and tweaked some features to make this one a more compact and convenient helmet.

Aside from the weight they had cut out, they had also taken time to carefully improve the comfort and well-fitting of the helmets, which includes improvement on the moisture-wicking fiber of its inner shell. Their ventilation has also undergone improvement, giving the helmet a better system with more control, as well as a brand new eye port and new shield. This particular upgrade allows you to manually adjust the locks so it can be modified to be tighter or looser, depending on the weather conditions or how you ride. The eye port is also a nice addition to its sleek features: it has a reinforced doubled walled gasket with makes it an outstanding seal against noise, wind, and the elements.

If you’re looking around for a helmet with a premium quality and happen to stumble upon this happen, consider yourself lucky.  Much like its predecessor, the RF-1000, the RF-1100 is also popular, making their line more impressive. It should be a real treat for any wearer to get their head inside this helmet as it can cover them no matter what comes their way.

Shoei Neotec

It should be noted that it is the only modular, (read: flip up) helmet on our top 5 list. However, many owners will tell you that this is the only one you’ll need- ever. It has nearly perfect reviews across multiple sites from buyers who have given it positive feedback. This is essentially true since the comfort this helmet provides is more than what it’s worth.

Basically, this helmet is more of a personal preference for those who prefer a helmet with a flip-up functionality.  Those who prefer the said functionality will be thrilled for the Neotec since it has the option whether you’d want to flip just the visor or the whole face. It also has a flip down, built-in shade visor. The numerous features will suit whatever riding need you have.

Handling of the shields, visors, and face parts of the helmets come relatively easy. There’s no need for any hardware and can be done with gloves on.

The Neotec’s ventilation is also stellar. To help the wearer with absorption, it has a double EPS line that helps you in times of an impact. The fit also comes in sleek to help you to easily take it out.

Arguably, it has everything you need and would expect from a premium helmet. Not only that, it’s guaranteed to be of top-quality since it’s backed by Shoei, a fantastic company backed with their lineup of incredible helmets. For those who prefer a modular helmet, the Neotec is one helmet you need to take a look at.
